(1) The Board members
must elect —
(a) a
member to be chairperson of the Board; and
(b) a
member to be deputy chairperson of the Board.
(2) A chairperson or
deputy chairperson holds office for 1 year unless they resign or cease to be a
Board member.
(3) A Board member
must not hold office as —
(a)
chairperson for more than 5 consecutive annual terms; or
(b)
deputy chairperson for more than 5 consecutive annual terms.
(4) The deputy
chairperson may act as chairperson —
(a) if
the chairperson is unable to act because of illness, absence or other cause;
or
(b) if
requested to do so by the chairperson; or
(c)
during a vacancy in the office of chairperson.
(5) While acting as
chairperson of the Board the deputy chairperson has, and may perform, the
functions of chairperson.
(6) An act or omission
of the deputy chairperson acting in the chairperson’s place cannot be
questioned on the ground that the occasion to act in the chairperson’s
place had not arisen or had ceased.
(7) The chairperson of
the Board is to be paid such remuneration and allowances as the Board may
determine.
