(1) A police officer
of or above the rank of inspector (an issuing officer ) may, by notice in
writing (a BSA authorisation ), authorise another police officer (an
authorised officer ) to exercise the powers under this Division.
(2) Except as provided
in subsection (4), a BSA authorisation has effect for a period stated in the
notice, being a period no longer than 28 days after the notice is issued.
(3) If the issuing
officer is of the rank of inspector, the BSA authorisation must, within 24
hours after it is issued, be ratified in writing by a police officer of or
above the rank of superintendent.
(4) A BSA
authorisation referred to in subsection (3) ceases to have effect 24 hours
after it is issued if it is not ratified in accordance with that subsection.
(5) A BSA
authorisation must —
(a)
contain any directions approved by the Commissioner relating to the exercise
of powers under this Division; and
(b)
otherwise be in a form approved by the Commissioner.
(6) A BSA
authorisation may be revoked or varied by the issuing officer or another
police officer of or above the rank of superintendent.
