GREY COLLECTION EXCHANGE ACT 1921 - NOTES

- As at 3 September 2007 - Act 10 of 1921

Preamble

WHEREAS the collection of books and manuscripts in the Auckland Public Library known as the Grey Collection was presented by the late Sir George Grey for the use of the citizens of Auckland and vested in the Council of the City of Auckland in trust for that purpose: And whereas by an Act of the Legislature of the Union of South Africa, entitled the Grey Collection Act 1921, the Board of Trustees of the South African Public Library is empowered to transfer certain books and manuscripts in its possession, formerly belonging to the late Sir George Grey and relating to the Maoris of New Zealand and to Polynesia, to the Government of New Zealand in exchange for certain books and manuscripts relating to South Africa and its people and included in the aforesaid Grey Collection in the Auckland Public Library: And whereas it is desirable that such exchange should be effected, and that the Auckland City Council should, notwithstanding any conditions of the trust aforesaid, be empowered to transfer the said books and manuscripts relating to South Africa and its people to the said Board of Trustees, and to receive in exchange on behalf of the New Zealand Government, and to hold in trust for the people of New Zealand, the said books and manuscripts relating to the Maoris of New Zealand and to Polynesia:

BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
