17B—Minors not to participate in lotteries
(1) A person must not
sell a ticket in a lottery promoted or conducted by the Commission to a minor.
Maximum penalty: $5 000.
(2) It is a defence
for a person charged with an offence against subsection (1) to prove that
he or she believed on reasonable grounds that the person to whom the ticket
was sold was of or above the age of 18 years.
(3) If a person,
acting at the request of a minor, purchases a ticket in a lottery promoted or
conducted by the Commission on behalf of the minor, or claims or collects, on
behalf of the minor, a prize won on a ticket in a lottery promoted or
conducted by the Commission, the person is guilty of an offence.
Maximum penalty: $5 000.
(4) In this
section—
"minor" means a person who is under the age of 18 years.
