(1) An
authorised officer may require the owner of premises of a prescribed kind in
the country, or a person proposing to build any such premises, to take
specified steps to prevent the outbreak of fire at the premises, or the spread
of fire from the premises.
(2) A person to whom
such a requirement is directed may, within 14 days after the date of the
requirement, lodge a written notice of objection with the Chief Officer.
(3) The Chief Officer
must consider any such objection and may vary the requirement in any manner
the Chief Officer thinks fit.
(4) A person who fails
to comply with a requirement under this section is guilty of an offence.
Maximum penalty: $10 000.
(5) In this
section—
"authorised officer" means a person authorised by the Chief Officer to
exercise the powers of an authorised officer under this section.
