NATIONAL MEASUREMENT REGULATIONS 1999 1999 No. 110 1999 - REG 60

Approval of patterns of measuring instruments
(1)
On application under regulation 58, the approving authority:

(a)
may, on payment of any relevant fee, examine the pattern of a measuring instrument; and

(b)
may approve the pattern of a measuring instrument by certifying that the instrument is suitable for use for trade or as a legal measuring instrument; and

(c)
if the pattern of the measuring instrument is approved — must issue a certificate of approval to the applicant; and

(d)
may issue a copy of the certificate to anyone else whom the authority considers should be given the copy.

(2)
The certifying authority must not examine a measuring instrument lodged with the application if the examination would create a significant risk of personal injury or death, or damage to property.

(3)
Approval of the pattern of a measuring instrument lodged with the application may be given subject to retention by the Commission of the whole or a part of the measuring instrument.

(4)
Approval of the pattern of a measuring instrument is subject to:

(a)
a condition that a measuring instrument on which the number of the approved pattern is marked must comply with the pattern and any other condition to which the approval is subject; and

(b)
any other condition stated in the certificate of approval.
